TVI - Balearic Channel

Overall design and set-up of the Balearic broadcaster TVI

From acquisition, studio production and audio / video post-production with integrated graphics to play-out, Wellen+Nöthen provided the technical infrastructure for a completely new TV station in the cities of Inca and Palma.

The basic idea was to map all the production processes, where possible, in a tapeless workflow. To do this, hard disk recorders are being used already at the outside production stage, which are then docked to the DVCam or DVCPro camcorder.

The recorded audio/video data is edited in the broadcasting center in Inca or in the production studio in Palma on five Avid Xpress and one Pro Tools station, and provided for shared access on two production servers (AVID Lanshare).

Once post-production is complete, an FTP transfer sends the finished broadcasts to the Proxsys Media Server Enterprise System. Broadcasts that have already been produced and are supplied from external sources can also be transferred directly onto the broadcasting system's hard disks (central storage) via several ingest stations.

With each transfer or play-in operation into the central storage system, a copy is automatically stored in MPEG 4 format for low-resolution browsing.

Connected to the central storage systems are a total of eight independent play-out stations, which are synchronized internally. All clips broadcast via the play-out channels are automatically recorded onto PC-based hard disk systems (MPEG 4 file format) to document the entire TV program (legal recording).

Two recording studios were built for the production of news and general program content. The studios are equipped with 3 cameras, two of which are remote cameras controlled via the linked studio management system. The third camera can be operated by a cameraman if required.
